Education Update
So, after my last final last Thursday, my instructor came to me and wanted to "talk". She is one of my favorite instructors, and one of the most intelligent ones as well. I enjoy talking with her and listening to her lectures, she has a lot to say! Anyway, I digress, she wanted to discuss my career plans, which I thought was weird because she knows my plans, we discuss it a lot. So, after talking about hard to get into classes at Kirkwood and the long waiting list for the program she started talking about a transfer to Iowa. I used to be very against that because of fear, but she told me how she thought I was so smart and was really selling myself short not to challenge myself with the University's program. Then she threw out that she thought I should go to medical school....I quickly smashed that!!! Too much time away from the kids. But, she put a bug in my ear about the PA program at Iowa. It is one of the best in the nation, and once graduated I would work office hours, no on-call, and make a lot more money right out of school that if I did the BSN program at Iowa. Her mom works in a medical office and was telling her how in-demand PAs are right now, and she thought of me!?! So, I have started to look into it. I won't be there in the fall because of application deadlines, but maybe in the spring. I got a lot of good ideas from Mom, as well, about programs that would get the same results, but get the RN first and continue in school while working. If anyone has other information about this I would love to see it. I am still not set on a path......I'm only 28, why should I know what I want to be when I grow up, yet???

Support from me in whatever you decide! Personally, I think PA's are just as cold as docs. Poor bedside manner and so on. The one's I have had experience with did not impress me. Nurse practitioners can do much of what a PA does, they probably make a little less, but I feel are more in tune with a clients needs. NPs can be employed by an OBGYN too, which I dont think I have ever seen a PA with an OBGYN. You could also be an RN and continue your ed to be a NP. working all the while. you will be great at whatever you decide and we will support you no matter what career you choose!! you are smart and can do it!
